Which Member Of New York Knicks Should Comissioner Stern Reprimand: Isiah Thomas, Stephon Marbury, Or James Dolan?

September 25 07

I used to believe the theory there’s no such thing as bad publicity. All ’pub’ is good ’pub’, right? Well, the New York Knicks are certainly testing this theory.

Last week, Isiah Thomas, the team’s coach and GM, who’s also at the center of this very public sexual harassment case, spent the week explaining his interpretation of a specific curse word.

Thomas’ clarification did very little. He still looks awful. And now we are getting the slow motion, play-by-play on star guard Stephon Marbury sleeping with a front office intern. I’m not judging two adults having consensual sex-even if they work together. That’s their business. But it doesn’t look good when one of them is married and holds an enormous amount of power over the other. And I’m not referring to the intern.

The suits at NBA head office must be cringing. The Knicks, a classic franchise, are pure tabloid fodder. Instead of analyzing the team’s off-season moves, the NYC’s daily papers are analyzing the team’s off-court behavior, which leaves much to be desired.

But there’s nothing Commissioner Stern can do. Nothing illegal has happened-yet. And the court may judge that nothing illegal as far as an employer-employee relationship happened. But the court of public opinion has judged the Knicks. Their suspicions have been confirmed. This once-proud franchise is a disaster.

And whenever this thing is settled, one way or another, Stern will have to step-in and levy a fine or suspension towards owner James Dolan.

Should the league step-in and reprimand the Knicks? Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts.
