Why Chris Anderson Should Get Reinstated, Will ’Birdman’ Land With Boston Celtics Or Other NBA Team?

September 18 07

The Boston Globe reports on Chris Anderson returning from a suspension for violating the NBA’s drug policy:

Teams looking for a veteran midseason pickup at an attractive price could do a lot worse than former Nuggets/Hornets forward Chris Anderson, a.k.a. The Birdman. That’s when Anderson’s two-year suspension for violating the league’s drug policy expires. Anderson has been working out in Las Vegas getting ready to resume his career, and it’s anticipated that the Hornets, who last held his rights, will not reinstate his contract (3 1/2 years left on a four-year, $14 million deal), which will make Anderson a free agent.

Why Anderson Should Be Allowed To Return To The NBA:

Reason 1:
Comedy.

Reason 2: Energy.

Reason 3: Fans Show Love.

 -Exhibit A)

 -Exhibit B)

My Quick Take: Anderson isn’t a bad guy; far from it, in fact. He had a rough childhood, surrounded himself with too many enablers once in the NBA, and started believing his hype as the wild birdman.

This led to his positive drug test two years ago and suspension. Unfortunate stuff. But nothing he can’t fix or come back from.

He is wiser. He has learned his lesson. And the NBA will likely let him return. Look for Anderson to sign with a veteran squad and make an immediate impact off the bench.

This article appeared in the Boston Globe, which is ironic because the Celtics would be a great destination for Anderson. He would provide the green-and-white with energy, athleticism, and defense. Doc Rivers, Boston’s coach, is great at building relationships with players, so he could provide support. And ’The Big Three’, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce, would take the media pressure off ’Birdman’. Anderson would also come cheap, an important consideration for the capped-out Celtics.

Do you think
Anderson should be allowed to return next season? Where should he play? Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts.

*Andersen, not Anderson! But yeah, he deserves a second chance. I think he has a lot to prove and the ability to prove it. many teams will be sorry they didn’t take a chance on him. .

Everyone deserves a 2nd chance, yeah sure he blew the dunk contest, but thats probably why he went to steroids... everyone made fun of him. Either way, hopefully celtics get him, and he can regain his respect .
