Why Golden State Warriors Waived Sarunas Jasikevicius, & What Troy Hudson Offers

September 22 07
Sarunas Jasikevicius is out. Troy Hudson is in.

The Warriors are apparently playing musical chairs with their back-up point guard spot. Jasikevicius has left the club for Euroleague champion Panathinaikos, while the San Jose Mercury is reporting that Troy Hudson will sign a cheap one-year deal with the Warriors.

This is a minor move. Still, I like it. Jasikevicius, for whatever reason, couldn’t get rolling in the NBA. He sat in
Indiana. And his minutes didn’t improve after getting dealt out west to the Warriors.

This is surprising when you consider his success in
Europe and international competitions. A lot of his problems were wrong place, wrong time. But Jasikevicius did fall into the dreaded combo guard trap. He was too slow for point-guard and not big enough for off-guard.

I do think
Indiana and Golden State could have found a better way to use his skills, especially in an off-the-bench, instant-offense role. The Lithuanian will go back to Europe and thrive because there is less emphasis on formal positions.

Troy Hudson is another Don Nelson reclamation project. And, no, we are not referring to his rap career.

Coach Nelson loves to give struggling players an opportunity. He had a knack for finding down-and-out ballers during his first tenure in
Golden State and with Dallas. And last year, Matt Barnes went from the NBA waiver wire to playoff glory.

Hudson was a hi-tempo, scoring point guard. He was lightning quick, but would sometimes get out of control.I ’m using the word was intentionally. Hudson has struggled with injuries for the last few seasons. Nobody knows where his game is at.

If healthy, he sounds perfect for the run-and-gun Warriors. Look for Nelson to get something from
Hudson.

What do you think of the Warriors letting Jasikevicius go and replacing him with
Hudson? Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts.

Q.: Why Jasikevicius couldn’t get rolling in the NBA? A.: NBA teams he played are far away of understanding the fundamentals of basketball! .

Listen you Jim Rome wanna be. From 2001-2006 Troy had very solid seasons as a key contributor. He has had some suffered many injuried throughout his career, but when he is healthy he can produce with the best of them. The money he has made has actually been pretty fair for a person who has been around for 10 years. Troy has done his thing and he should be given propers for being able to stick around so long. I see you boy SJ couldn’t even make 4 years .

My Final Take: I wish SJ would have went to Cleveland and played with his best friend Big Z. They need a PG with his style and he’d probably fit in better. I don’t like Troy Hudson as a player or a rapper, he should retire from both. The contract the T’Wolves gave him was outrageous, and now he got a buyout for $10 million to go play somewhere else and make another million. What a joke, how is this guy a 10 year veteran. I guess I’ll give him and his agent some credit for robbing teams and sticking around the league. This Warriors experiment should be interesting. Note: The amount of money he has rob teams for, $33,337,850. Now wonder all these medicore young kids are so axious to jump to the nba, when they see players like Hudson making this crazy kind of jack for missing majority of his seasons throughout his career .
