Avery Johnson first choice to coach Atlanta Hawks?

"Former Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson will receive the first interview to fill the Atlanta Hawks‘ coaching vacancy, according to NBA coaching sources.

Current Mavericks assistant Dwane Casey will also interview for the Hawks’ job in the next few days, sources said.

Atlanta announced Friday that Mike Woodson would not be offered a new contract after a six-season run.

Johnson, an NBA analyst for ESPN, has already interviewed with the Philadelphia 76ers and his hometown New Orleans Hornets in recent weeks."

HoopsVibe’s Thoughts: Why? Why would Johnson, who dealt with ego maniac Mark Cuban in Dallas, leave the comfort of the broadcast booth to join dysfunctional Atlanta?

Sure, the Hawks have more talent than the city’s infamous and now shut Gold Club, but ownership often resembles an episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta with their cattiness, histrionics, and drama.

Simply put, ‘The Little General’ is the best sideline boss available, so he should steer clear of The ATL and wait for a better gig to materialize. The Hawks’ ownership, as presently constructed, gives him zero shot at winning an NBA Title.

(Avery: avoid Atlanta unless, of course, you want to deal with … )

Is Johnson and the Hawks a good fit? Are their owners more dramatic than the ladies on The Real Housewives of Atlanta? Get at HoopsVibe News with your thoughts in the comment box below.
