Mavericks and Haywood agree to six-year, $55 million contract

Dallas acquired Haywood at midseason in a trade with Washington.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Forget their 2010 post-season flameout.

Brendan Haywood provided size, length, and toughness during his half season audtion for the Dallas Mavericks, so it’s little surprise Team Cuban rewarded the seven-footer with a multi-year deal.

After all, Haywood scrapped teammate Etan Thomas several times in practice when both were competing for the Washington Wizards’ starting center position.

He’ll continue to compete with the Mavericks in 2011, and won’t get fat and/or happy with the security of a long-term contract.

Expect him to anchor the defense, as Dallas regroups after last year’s playoff failure.
