LeBron James: Heat ‘can’t show up’ and win

After losing to unbeaten New Orleans on Friday night, LeBron James said that Miami needs to make sure they match their opponent’s energy level on a nightly basis.

"One thing we have to continue to learn, that every time we step out on the basketball court, no matter who we’re going against, we can’t just show up, you know, because we have this uniform on, because we have who we have on the court," James said. "We have to play and it’s not about Xs and Os, it’s about the energy level.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: It’s been a profound week for The King.

First, LeBron James admitted The Decision –the one hour television special where he announced his next team- was an epic failure.

Of course, when pressed by media, James couldn’t say exactly what failed and what he’d change.

But hey, baby steps.

Second, James has conceded the Miami Heat, his new team, can’t just show up and win.

Well, he’s right. Opponents will bring their A-game when they face James and his Holy Trinity teammates because the Heat brings the national spotlight.

Take last night’s Heat-New Orleans Hornets game. The Hornets won behind Chris Paul’s 19 assists and Emeka Okafor’s 26 points and 13 rebounds.

When healthy, Paul typically drops highlight reel dimes, but Okafor rarely notches 26 points on an ultra efficient 12-of-13 from the floor.

Bottom line: many players will have Okafor-like lines against the Heat. James and company can’t show up and win.
