Rumor: Heat interested in Eddy Curry?
Former New York Knicks center Eddy Curry recently worked out for Heat president Pat Riley, causing speculation that the team might be interested in adding the big man before the playoffs.
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: The Miami Heat has no need to ‘go there’.
The ‘there’ is Eddy Curry, the often overweight and rarely used center formerly of the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks.
Of course, Curry has been making headlines for off-court shenanigans. He’s reportedly broke because of a lifestyle that gives new meaning to extravagant and was involved in some, well, bizarre accusations from a former employee.
To top it off, Curry can’t play anymore. And he clearly has more baggage than a Hollywood socialite in rehab.
Perhaps Heat executive Pat Riley only sees upside. Riley has a reputation for being a revisionist, throwing struggling pros Ricky Davis, Penny Hardaway, Smush Parker, and Antoine Walker a lifeline when their career appears over.
So the oil-slick GM probably remembers Curry’s one decent year when he received touches with a terrible Knicks squad.
Curry has played just ten games in three seasons, so the Heat wouldn’t get that player who sort of commanded a double-team down-low.
Hopefully, the Heat pass, and this charade goes no further than a meaningless work out.
