Pipen: Jordan Still Greatest Ever
"The comments that I made were basically giving LeBron some props as a player, not to dismantle any player like Michael," Pippen said after a youth camp session at the Bulls/Sox academy. "We all know that he’s the greatest player that ever played the game. "I think it was taken a little bit out of context. I felt like I was drawing more of a conclusion from the statistics more than the accolades."
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Scottie Pippen’s attempts to save face are failing.
Recently, Pippen declared LeBron James the greatest NBA player ever. At the time, James hadn’t won a championship. His Heat eventually lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
Of course, there`s more. Pippen spent most of his career next to the player many consider The G.O.A.T: Michael Jordan.
Many, myself included, felt Pippen was taking a shot at Jordan by giving James so much credit.
Jordan and Pippen had a highly successful partnership. They won six championships together with the Chicago Bulls.
There was tension, though. Pippen believed Jordan’s greatness came at his expense and he deserved more praise.
It’s an age old story: co-star/little brother is jealous of the leading man/big brother. No doubt about it, Pippen wanted to be Jordan.
Where else could his comments be coming from?
James is a superb talent, but hasn’t won a championship. And, like he usually does in the clutch, James imploded in the NBA Finals.
Now Pippen is attempting to clarify what he said. Too little, too late.
