Rumor: ‘Zero Percent’ chance Kobe Bryant plays for Besiktas in fall
Source: Kobe Bryant has not spoken with Turkish team in 2 wks. Current chance he plays there in fall: "zero percent."
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Some common sense from a reporter in the know.
David Aldridge of NBA.com believes there’s a ‘zero percent’ chance Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers crosses the Atlantic and suits up for Besiktas this fall while the league is locked-out.
In fact, Aldridge cites a source who claims Bryant hasn’t chatted with the Turkish club for two weeks, which, if true, means most media has been speculating on false reports.
There are reasons Bryant would stay state-side: he has more wear-and-tear on his body than the 82 Hyundai you drove as a 16-year old; Besiktas has a past, which includes fixing soccer games; he can earn similar money playing in exhibition games and spreading his Nike brand.
And what happens if he sustains an injury playing in a second-rate league known for housing NBA castoffs and mysterious European prospects?
Playing in Turkey is too great a risk. But Bryant and the Players Union will continue fuelling these rumours to gain leverage in negotiations.
However, little will come of it.
