Rumor: Carmelo wants Chris Paul in New York?
If it works out and he comes here and they allow him to come here, you’ll see a smile from ear to ear,” Anthony said during an appearance in Greenwich Village. “It’s not just me. It’s everybody [in New York]. If he decides to leave New Orleans and goes somewhere else, they’ll be feeling the same way I’m feeling.”
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: This is a touch ironic.
Those reports you heard about Chris Paul joining Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire in New York with the Knicks are again surfacing.
And they’re coming from Anthony, who seems content on forming a super-team to rival the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.
Unfortunately, the owners can now justify the four-month long lockout. Remember, part of this labour impasse is about the polarization of the league into 8 have-teams and 22 have-not teams.
Here Anthony is recruiting the game’s best point guard in an attempt to form a post-lockout super team. After all, Paul is a step-up on the Knicks’ current table-setter of Chauncey Billups.
A team of Anthony, Stoudmire, and Paul would challenge the best in the Eastern Conference.
Conversely, Paul defecting New Orleans would kill the Hornets. They would be a bottom-feeder for years, making annual trips to New Jersey for the draft lottery.
So perhaps Anthony should delay his recruiting of Paul until after the lockout.
