Rumor: 76ers want Amar’e Stoudemire?
According to a league source, the Sixers have inquired about Stoudemire, though it was categorized as “due diligence.” Nothing is said to be imminent or even in the early stages other than just talk, the source said.
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Make no mistake about it, the New York Knicks have made Amar’e Stoudemire available.
After all, Stoudemire does not click with Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks’ franchise face who was acquired last February.
Anthony’s shot-happy ways have turned Stoudemire into a blue-collar post rather than the $100 million superstar the Knicks signed in July, 2010.
So, Stoudemire`s name has made the rounds: he’s been linked to the Magic in a deal for Horward; he nearly joined the Hornets in exchange for Chris Paul; and now the upstart Philadelphia 76ers are interested.
Make no mistake about it, the 76ers are keen, and this isn’t the first time they’ve pursued Stoudemire.
The last time he was playing out his contract with the overachieving Phoenix Suns, who lacked the finances to give their All-Star post a big ticket.
And finances is something the 76ers no longer lack. Their new owners, led by Josh Harris, have deep pockets and will spend to win.
Perhaps it starts with acquiring a pricey talent like Stoudemire.
