Paul Silas and Tyrus Thomas altercation
Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas and 6-8 forward Tyrus Thomas had a screaming match that erupted into shoving on Sunday.
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Never pick a fight with someone as old as your dad.
This incident went down in the Bobcats’ locker room following their loss to the Boston Celtics, the Bobcat’ 17th straight. Thomas had gone 2-5 from the field for 4 points and apparently his buddy-buddy on-the-court behavior with some of the Celtics rubbed Silas the wrong way. Silas confronted Thomas about it and the discussion quickly got heated. Thomas reported stood up and Silas shoved him back into his locker stall. A number of players quickly intervened and the whole thing was over before punches were thrown.
Bobcat president of basketball operations Bob Higgins met with both Silas and Thomas, and levied fines on both. The incident is just another black eye on a program struggling for survival as the Bobcats limp through a 7-53 record this season. The Celtics rested Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen, and still won handedly 94-82.
