Josh Smith Won’t Play in Game 3 Against Celtics

Without Josh Smith Atlanta will struggle against Boston.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Atlanta needs Smith to beat the Celtics.

Sources close to Smith say it is extremely doubtful Smith will play against Boston. He suffered a high left knee sprain in game two and although there is no structural damage to the knee, he will likely not play in game 3 to let it recover.

Atlanta’s coach Larry Drew doesn’t seem so convinced his star won’t play. Drew commented how Smith hasn’t missed a single game this year and that he would expect his Smith to play through any injuries unless he is absolutely too injured. Sounds like we might have a difference of opinion on whether Smith will be putting in time. This decision might be made court-side before the game.

Smith’s potential replacements coming off the Atlanta bench would be Ivan Johnson, Tracy McGrady, and Vladimir Radmanovic. None of which Atlanta can possibly be too excitted about. This first round series is currently all even at 1 game a piece, but Atlanta will need Smith if they hope to close out Boston.
