Michael Jordan Should Hire Brian Shaw

While Michael Jordan is being called out by some as the worst front office executive of all time, Jordan and the Bobcats are not making a rash decision when it comes to hiring the next head coach.

HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Hire Brian Shaw ASAP before someone else does.

So far, they’ve interviewed eight different candidates- Jerry Sloan, Patrick Ewing, Nate McMillan, Dave Joerger, Mike Malone, Nate Tibbetts, Mike Dunlap and Stephen Silas- and on Monday ESPN announced that Quin Snyder and Brian Shaw will also be interviewed for the position.

Someone needs to give Brian Shaw a shot as a head coach. And if Jordan is smart, that someone should be the Charlotte Bobcats.

Shaw knows the game from all angles. As a player, he won three championships and played with some of the best players in NBA history, from Larry Bird in Boston to Shaq in Orlando, to Kobe in LA.

As an assistant coach under Phil Jackson, he was a part of two more title winning squads, losing in the Finals two other times. In one year with the Pacers as the associate head coach, he was part of a staff that won five more games than it did a year ago (in a shortened season) and actually won a playoff series for the first time since 04-05.

Since the Bobcats came into existence, Jordan and company have tried hiring older, experienced head coaches to lead the squad (Bernie Bickerstaff, Larry Brown, Paul Silas) and it just hasn’t worked. Sorry Jerry Sloan but Orlando is perfect for you.

Shaw may lack head coaching experience, but he can hang with anyone in terms of NBA experience. He had to have learned something in 14 years as a player and seven years under arguably the greatest coach in NBA history.

With Shaw coming out of the same system as Jordan, Jackson’s Triangle offense, it adds an interesting wrinkle in terms of where Jordan wants to go with the franchise. And who wouldn’t want the success Jackson enjoyed? Brian Shaw’s pedigree is about as close to a young Phil Jackson as you can get.

Of all the names Michael Jordan is considering , Brian Shaw should be at the top.
