Hornets Trade Ariza and Okafor

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Is this really all they’ve got for a rebuilding plan?

The New Orleans Hornets traded trevor Ariza and center Emeka Okafor to the Washington Wizards for forward Rashard Lewis and a second-round draft pick. What Washington plans on doing with these two duds is debatable.

Okafor was the 2nd overall pick of the 2004 draft, but averaged only 9.9 poits and 7.9 rebounds per game last season. Not exactly the type of numbers Washington was hoping for. Ariza wasn’t much better with only 10.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, although he is known more for his defense than anything else.

This isn’t exactly a ground breaking trade, but one has to wonder what on earth Washington is planning on doing with them. Do the Wizards really think these guys are just about to blossom into legit players? Maybe they just wanted to dump Rashard Lewis and his six-year, $118 million contract, either way this is the blind helping the blind.
