Barkley says Lebron could be better than Jordan

Yesterday, Charles Barkley took it upon himself to add a little fuel to an already burning and fiery debate about whether Lebron is better than Jordan.

Hoopsvibe’s quick call:  We thought Barkley and Jordan were good friends but so much for that!  (kidding).

Sir Charles, one of the smallest and most effective power forwards to ever play the game of basketball, took it upon himself to say something he never thought he’d say yesterday.

He actually admitted that Lebron will one day be better than his boy, Michael.

“I do think he can be better than Michael,” Barkley said.  “I thought I would never compare somebody to Michael Jordan.  But this guy, Lebron James, he does everything well.  Michael did everything well.  Lebron James is just bigger, stronger, faster.  That’s the only difference.”

Barkley certainly has a point.  In his heyday, Jordan was listed at 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighed about 215 lbs.  Lebron James is currently listed at 6 feet 8 inches tall and 250 lbs.  So he has two inches more of height and is about 35 pounds heavier than Jordan was in his prime.  Having said that, according to various sources on the internet, MJ reportedly had the most ridiculous vertical leap ever in the NBA at 48 inches.  Lebron’s has been measured at 44.

Unfortunately for Lebron, there’s really no way of comparing the two until he wins a few more rings.

“Unfortunately for Lebron, now that the monkey is off his back, he is going to be compared to two people:  Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan,” said former NBA great, Shaquille O’Neal.  He continued to ask, “So now the question is how many championships can he get?”

Jordan finished his illustrious career with 6.  Last season Lebron earned his first and also became the second player in history to win the NBA title, regular-season MVP, Finals MVP AND Olympic gold medal all in the same year.  Oh, and the first player to do that…

Michael Jordan.

So can Lebron one day pass Michael as the best NBA baller to ever live?  What do you think, Hoopsvibers???!
