Kobe Talks Timetable For Retirement
Kobe Talks Retirement When Current Contract Up
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: MJ fooled me the first 12 times he said this too. I’m not falling for it with you Kobe.
Fool me once shame on me. Fool me twice and … uh … well, I won’t be fooled twice. In the wise words of George W. Bush, we aren’t falling for this old song and dance Kobe. We’ve been through all this with Michael Jordan just a few years ago.
Yes, it’s just about that time in Kobe’s career where he starts to talk retirement. His latest statements on the subject weren’t hints, but actual point-blank statements that he can’t see playing past his current Laker contract. This would theoretically mean his last season would be in 2013-2014 and that his window for capturing a coveted 6th NBA title is a must win now situation.
“It’s just that three more years seems like a really long time to continue to stay at a high, high level of training and preparation and health,” Bryant said. “That’s a lot of years. For a guard? That’s a lot of years.” Yeah, it is a lot of years. Yet, you know what else is a lot of years Kobe? The rest of your life you have to sit around your mansion and watch TV. Ask MJ how that’s going for him. You could of course purchase a NBA team, if your wife will lend you some of her money, but there again MJ seems to be miserable.
All-in-all Jordan made the retirement process look miserable for elite ballers. He appears bitter and unhappy. Kobe who has unabashedly mimicked Jordan’s game and idiosyncrasies his entire career will hopefully not have as dismal a departure from the game as his mentor, but either way I seriously doubt that departure will be in two years.
