Dallas Dumps Delonte West and Scoops Eddy Curry

Dallas Dumps Delonte West and Scoops Eddy Curry

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: The Mavs pick consistent production or attitude and flash.

With the deadline for every NBA team’s final 15-man roster quickly approaching on Monday October 29th, the Dallas Mavericks wasted no time. They quickly filled the spot created by Delonte West being suspended by the team indefinitely with veteran big-man Eddy Curry. Maybe this is due to their failed experiment last season with Lamar Odom, but the Mavs showed they were looking for a consistent contributor and team player of the flash and sizzle of Delonte West.

Curry was the 4th overall pick in the 2001 draft. He was cut the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday and quicly scooped up by the Mavs. Curry has proven to be a solid center throughout his career. He stands a legit 7-feet tall and 295-pounds, so in a Western Conference with bigs like Dwight Howard, Curry can definitely come in handy defensively and for giving some hard-fouls with his size. Curry is 29-years old and has averaged 13 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 24.9 minutes throughout his career. This isn’t exactly the output one would hope from a #4 overall draft, but he has remained consistent. In his five preseason games with the Spurs Curry put up 8.4 points per game and 3.4 rebounds.

“He has worked extremely hard this off-season and can provide our front line with much needed depth, ” president of basketball operations for the Mavs Donnie Nelson said.

Curry is expected to join the Dallas Mavericks Friday for the shootaround and the preseason finale against Charlotte.
