Latrell Sprewell Arrested On New Year’s Eve
Former NBA bad boy Latrell Sprewell is back in the news.
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Some guys just can’t stay out of trouble.
Latrell Sprewell was arrested on Monday afternoon in Milwaukee and it had nothing to do with newly anointed Brooklyn Nets coach PJ Carlesimo’s neck.
Sprewell was arrested after police received multiple complaints about loud music coming from a house on Milwaukee’s east side."Spree" was charged with disorderly conduct. From here, the case has been referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office.
Spree was a prolific scorer who in a 13 year NBA career averaged 18.3 ppg, 4.0 apg and 4.1 rpg for the Warriors, T-Wolves and Knicks. Unfortunately since he retired from the NBA after being offered a three year, $21 million dollar deal by the Wolves (which he famously said wasn’t enough to feed his children), he hasn’t been able to stay out of trouble, specifically financial trouble.
In 2011 Sprewell was named one of the state’s biggest "tax deadbeats", owing the state of Wisconsin $3.5 million in unpaid income taxes. In 2008 one of his Wisconsin homes was auctioned off after being foreclosed upon. In 2007 his luxury yacht was auctioned off for $1.5 million dollars.
Sadly for Spree, the choking incident in 1997 with then coach PJ Carlesimo overshadowed an exciting and productive NBA playing career and has become what he is known for. But all the legal issues only compound his problems in terms of being perceived as a trouble maker thanks to the choking incident.
It’s too bad because the aggressive way that Sprewell attacked the basket on every play was unparalleled in his era and even to the current day. Spree played angry and unfortunately that has trailed him off of the basketball court.
