Greg Oden Isn’t Done Yet, Heat Interested
Greg Oden is back- again.
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Maybe this time it all works out for the former #1 pick.
The old adage goes that “you can’t teach height” and seven footers with the skill and athleticism of Greg Oden will always be attractive to NBA squads. If guys like Eddy Curry and Nazr Mohammed can hang around and basically just take up space on NBA rosters (and in the paint), you can see why the 24 year old Oden gets a lot of NBA GM’s juices flowing.
It’s amazing to think that Oden is just 24. Equally amazing, is that he has played just a total of 82 games in his NBA career. In those 82 games, he has averaged 9.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg and 1.4 bpg in just 22.1 mpg. Extrapolate those numbers out over significant minutes, over an entire season, and you potentially have the best center in the game.
But, with anything so good, there is always a catch. In Oden’s case it’s a troublesome left knee which has endured a total of three micro-fracture surgeries since he turned pro. Which, in part, is why Oden is targeting a return to the NBA next year for the 2013-14 season. At this point, this is probably Oden’s last shot to be a productive pro player and the last thing he needs to do is push it. After a two year (three by start of next season) hiatus, he is prepping for a last hurrah. In his time away from the game, Oden finished his degree at Ohio State and concentrated on rehab.
Does Oden have anything left? Would you want your squad to give him a shot?
