Bynum Undergoes Surgery Today. Out For Season.

Andrew Bynum will have arthroscopic  surgery today and is done for the year.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: How glad are the Lakers that they got rid of Bynum now?

The future doesn’t look so bright for Andrew Bynum and the 76ers.  Bynum is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery today on both of his knees and is done for the year. This means the 76ers traded All Star forward Andre Iguodala for absolutely nothing. Bynum won’t play a single game for the 76ers and his contract is up at the end of the year.

“I think being healthy is more important than everything else,” Bynum said. “If I am healthy, I’ll get a deal. I have to be able to play and I need to get to the point with my body where I’m able to play, however long that takes.”

The real question is what kind of contract can Bynum expect at the end of the year? At the beginning of this season he was virtually guaranteed a max-deal, but with his injury-prone knees front and center this year, it is impossible to picture a franchise willing to part with that much scratch on a center that may be past his prime. Heck, Bynum may be done with the NBA for all we know.

Andrew Bynum is now in the category of NBA projects and high-risk investments. I’m sure someone will take a risk on the big guy, but it will be for significantly less money and with one eye on the end of his career.

Bynum’s teammates remained loyal to the big-guy empathizing with his situation. ”I feel like everybody’s been worried about Andrew the whole season,” All-Star guard Jrue Holiday said. “It’s like, all right, let my man breathe. I guess right now he’s going through a tough time. I’m just praying for him and hoping everything’s OK.”
