If The NBA Playoffs Started Today: Current Match-Ups
In less than a month, the NBA’s “real season” will begin.
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Watching the playoff picture develop over the end of the seasonis impossible to beat.
#1 Miami Heat vs #8 Milwaukee Bucks
At first glance, this looks like an easy series for the Heat, especially considering their current 23 game win streak. But, the Bucks have beaten them once in three games this year, a 19 point victory on December 29th. With 16 games remaining, Milwaukee has an eight game lead over Philadelphia for the final playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.
#2 Indiana Pacers vs #7 Indiana Pacers
The Pacers have taken advantage of the Knicks second half injury woes to usurp the #2 seed in the East. Weren’t the Celtics supposed to be worse after Rajon Rondo tore his ACL? Boston has actually been better without him and are currently only 3.5 games out of the #4 seed. Indiana has won the second most home games in the East (27), while the Celtics have won the third most (24). Boston surprisingly leads the season series 2-0.
#3 NY Knicks vs #6 Chicago Bulls
If the playoffs started today, the Knicks would be in deep trouble considering every stud they have is injured and it got worse today when they placed both Tyson Chandler and Kurt Thomas on the injury list. The Bulls are 3-0 against the Knickerbockers this season. New York is a game out of #4 and 1.5 games out of #2 seed, while the Bulls are in the same spot as the Celtics because they have the same record, but own the tiebreaker.
#4 Brooklyn Nets vs #5 Atlanta Hawks
This could be the most even match up in the Eastern Conference. The season series is tied 2-2. Are there two teams as streaky in the entire league?
#1 San Antonio Spurs vs #8 LA Lakers
“Los Spurs” lead the season series 2-0 but won both games by a combined total of five points. With 13 games left, the Lakers are 7.5 games out of #5 and only lead the Utah Jazz by one game for the #8 seed- a Lakers free playoffs is still a possibility.
#2 Oklahoma City Thunder vs #7 Houston Rockets
Who else would love to see this series come to fruition, just for the “Harden Factor” and how much he can do single handedly against his former team? OKC won the first two games by a combined 52 points, but Harden went off in game three and the Rockets won by three in Houston. OKC just keeps cruising along, their record/success almost taken for granted at this point. Primed for an early round exit?
#3 LA Clippers vs #6 Golden State Warriors
The Warriors have only made the playoffs one time in the last 18 seasons. The Clippers are coming off of their most successful postseason run in franchise history. The Warriors are an amazing 3-1 versus the Clippers this season. LA is just .5 games ahead of the Nuggets and the Clippers, while GSW has a two game lead for the #6 spot.
#4 Memphis Grizzlies vs #5 Denver Nuggets
Denver leads the season series 3-1. How bad would the NBA hate it if either of these small market teams advanced to the Finals?
