Kevin Ware’s Broken Leg Reminds Me Of Shaun Livingston’s (Video)
Incidents like the injury to Louisville’s Kevin Ware are hard to watch for anyone.
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Gruesome as it was, it was still not as bad as Shaun Livingston’s leg injury.
Here is the Ware injury in case you haven’t seen it:
Watching the way Ware’s entire leg collapsed immediately, with no contact whatsoever, reminded me of former Clippers guard Shaun Livingston and the way his knee completely exploded. It was basically the same kind of innocuous play- Ware was jumping to contest a shot, Livingston was tying to finish a lay-up on a fast break. Here is the description from Wikipedia:
In a game against the Charlotte Bobcats on February 26, 2007, Livingston suffered a debilitating knee injury, dislocating his left kneecap after landing awkwardly following a missed layup, resulting in the left leg snapping laterally. Livingston injured almost every part of his knee, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), and the lateral meniscus, badly spraining his medial collateral ligament (MCL), and dislocating his patella and his tibia–femoral joint.

One thing that stands out to me is how skinny each Ware and Livingston are. I’m no doctor (though I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night), Livingston is listed as 6-7, 175 and Ware 6-3, 175.
Speaking of being really skinny, tall and suffering a gruesome leg injury, no discussion on the topic would be complete without mentioning MMA fighter Corey Hill and the way his leg completely shattered from executing a simple low leg kick. Hill is listed as 6-6, currently 167, but he fought in the 140’s when he broke his leg.
Both Shaun Livingston and Corey Hill rehabilitated their legs and came back to play professionally in both sports. Here’s to a quick recovery for Kevin Ware.
