Zeller and Carter-Williams declare for the NBA draft
Indiana University’s Cody Zeller and Syracuse guard Michael Carter-Williams both declared for the 2013 NBA Draft on Wednesday.
Hoopsvibe’s quick call: Both college stars will not only get drafted early, but make an impact (eventually) in the NBA.
While it’s always difficult for players to make the transition from college to the pros, Zeller and Carter-Williams each have what it takes to have solid careers in the National Basketball Assocation.
Both players have decided to leave college after their Sophomore year. And actually, Carter-Williams and Syracuse knocked off Zeller and Indiana in the sweet 16 of this year’s Men’s NCAA tournament.
The 20-year old Zeller, although probably disappointed to not make it to the National Championship, had a great collegiate season, averaging 16.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game for the Hoosiers and shot a fairly remarkable 56.2% from the field. At 7 feet 240 pounds, he has plenty of size to be a dominant force on any team. But there are some questions as to whether he can compete at the highest level.
"Let’s be blunt: Teams are scared of Zeller," wrote SI.com’s Chris Mannix. "Zeller is an excellent mid-range shooter with underrated athleticism that should make him a decent NBA defender. But general managers continue to bring up the short wingspan and the lack of a separation move that will make it difficult for Zeller to create his own shot."
Zeller’s brother, Tyler, is also 7 feet and currently plays for the Cavaliers. He has another brother, Luke, who is only 6 foot 11 (missed out on the good genes) and played for the Suns this season before he was released in February.
Carter-Williams is a 6 foot 6 inch guard from Hamilton, MA, who averaged 11.9 points, 7.3 assists and 4.9 rebounds on the season for the Orangemen. He has great athleticisim and has got that whole lengthy Kevin Durant thing going, which will definitely make him a tough matchup for smaller guards in the NBA.
Carter-Williams has been projected to go 13th in the draft but various sources say he could go in the top 10.
Hoopsvibe would like to wish both ballers well as they step up their games!
But the question is, who will be better in the NBA? Carter-Williams or Zeller?? Leave your comments below!
