Blockbuster Trade Rumor: Garnett, Pierce, Rivers for Griffin, Bledsoe, Jordan and Butler?
Stephen A. Smith creates a stir claiming the Clippers are in talks to execute a blockbuster trade with the Celtics.
Hoopsvibe’s quick call: This rumor sounds almost too ridiculous to be true, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
Smith went on a rant on ESPN’s First Take the other day, saying that he’s hearing around the league that LA and Boston are in talks to organize a trade that would send Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, AND coach Doc Rivers for Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe. Wait … what?!!!
It sounds a little crazy, and it’s strange that they would throw Doc Rivers into the mix, but the idea behind a trade of that magnitude would be to keep Chris Paul from leaving LA for more money. (There have already been rumors that Paul is being chirped at by Mark Cuban and the Mavericks, who have serious dough, roughly $18 mill a year, to entice a franchise guy like Paul).
But Smith took to Twitter after his show to clarify that his trade claims are just “what’s being talked about” and to not necessarily take it to the bank just yet.
But what do you think, Hoopsvibers? Who would get the better end of that deal if it were to go down? Boston would certainly get youth, which they need terribly, but the Clippers would get some aging veterans who can play together and have talent.
I’m just not sure they would help LA get to the championship, but you never know! Leave your comments below!
