Rumor alert: Kevin Durant to sign with Roc Nation

Numerous media outlets reported Friday that there’s a pretty good chance Kevin Durant signs with Roc Nation sports.

Hoopsvibe’s quick call:  Signing Durant would be huge for Jay-Z and his newly formed sports management operation.

Roc Nation Sports, founded earlier this year by rapper Jay-Z, is a full service sports management company that co-partners with Los Angeles based talent agency, CAA.  In very little time, Roc Nation has signed some serious athletes; their roster of clients includes the Yankees Robinson Cano, the Giants Victor Cruz, women’s basketball star Skylar Diggins, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, and there’s a good chance their next major sign is the NBA’s second best player .. Kevin Durant.

Durant has reportedly left his agency, Landmark Sports, the same group that reps Houston Rockets’ James Harden and Lakers star Kobe Bryant, for Roc Nation.  The interesting aspect of this news is that Jay-Z cannot actively solicit NBA players for his agency until he sells his stake in the Brooklyn Nets.  Something that has yet to get done.

KD was the NBA’s second leading scorer this year, behind only the Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony.  He averaged 28.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists on 51% shooting.

And while Roc Nation will be focused on Durant’s basketball ability, KD has been known to rap here and there.  Maybe him and Jay-Z are planning to team up in the studio as well.
