Gilbert Arenas Arrested For Possession Of Illegal Fireworks
Happy 4th of July everyone!
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Gilbert Arenas' holiday plans sort of blew up in his face.
Last week, Gilbert Arenas was pulled over in Los Angeles around 2:30 AM for speeding, allegedly doing 80 MPH on the interstate.
When officers approached Arenas' vehicle, they noticed it was full of fireworks. All told, Arenas was carrying 20 boxes of illegal fireworks sitting in plain sight in the bed and cab of the truck. The following morning, police estimated that they confiscated over 100 pounds of fireworks from his truck. There were so many, that the LAPD bomb squad was called in to remove the fireworks from the scene.
Arenas was released from custody without bail at 6:45 AM and charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of illegal fireworks. He was also cited for speeding and for driving without a license.
The last time "Agent Zero" laced up a pair of shoes and played in an NBA game was 2011-12 when he was a member of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Arenas has been famously unstable throughout his career. When he was putting up numbers, he was "eccentric". But after he hurt his knee, he couldn't produce and his behavior could no longer be tolerated.
He tore the MCL in his knee to end his 2006-07 season, he was never the same player. In the subsequent five seasons Arenas was only healthy enough to play 134 games and looked like a shell of his former self.
But that didn't stop the Wizards from giving him a 6 year-deal worth $111 million dollars in July of 2008.
And now, five years later, Arenas is getting busted for speeding at 2:30 AM on a week night.
