Grizzlies put to the test in LA
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) – The surprising Memphis Grizzlies will be
put to the test tonight when they visit the exciting Los Angeles Lakers
tonight at the Staples Center.
Jason Williams dropped a game-high 28 points, including two three-pointers in
the final 1:17, as the Grizzlies outlasted the Seattle SuperSonics, 98-97, on
Friday at Key Arena.
Lorenzen Wright had 16 points and eight rebounds, and an under-the-weather
Mike Miller finished with 13 points, as Memphis won for the fourth time in
The Grizzlies won for the first time in 16 chances at Key Arena and are above
.500 (6-5) at the latest point in a season in franchise-history.
The Grizzlies, who are 3-3 on the road this season, are 0-16 when they are the
visitor against the Lakers.
The Lakers come into tonight’s contest on a two-game winning streak and have
won 21 in a row overall at the Staples Center..
No visiting team has won at the Staples Center in the regular season since the
New York Knicks did it on February 16. The 21-game home win streak is the
Lakers’ longest since winning 24 straight during the 1987-88 and 1988-99
Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Lakers over the Chicago
Bulls, 101-94, on Friday in front of their home crowd.
Gary Payton added 15 points for the Lakers, who have won five of their last
six games. Shaquille O’Neal also netted 15 points before leaving the game with
a strained calf, but the Lakers still improved to 6-0 at home this season
despite the departure of their superstar.
O’Neal is day-to-day.
The Grizzlies snapped a six-game losing streak to the Lakers 13 days ago,
defeating LA, 105-95, at the Pyramid.
Overall, the Lakers have won 17 of the last 19 meetings between the two
