Wizards’ Arenas placed on injured list

Washington, DC (Sports Network) – Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was
placed on the injured list with a severe abdominal strain prior to Tuesday’s
81-80 win against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Larry Hughes scored the winning basket with just 10.4 seconds left and
finished with a team-high 22 points. Etan Thomas added 12 points off the bench
for the Wizards, who snapped a two- game skid.

Arenas, Washington’s leading scorer, suffered the injury with five minutes
left in Sunday’s game against the Seattle SuperSonics. He will miss a minimum
of five games.

The 21-year-old Arenas, who was signed to a six-year, $64 million free-agent
contract last summer, is averaging 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists
in 13 games this season for the Wizards.
