(Sports Network) – The New Jersey Nets lost Friday to Portland, 97-93, at
the Rose Garden.

Jason Kidd tallied 27 points and seven helpers for the Nets, who continued
their five-game road trip. The Nets are 2-1 on the current swing.

Kidd nailed consecutive three-pointers to cut the Portland margin to 93-91
with 58.8 seconds remaining.

But after a Portland timeout, Damon Stoudamire drilled a triple to increase
the Trail Blazers’ edge back to five with 40.7 seconds left to play.

Five seconds later, Kidd scored a quick two to get New Jersey within 96-93,
but Stoudamire drained a free throw with 14 seconds left to build on the lead
for Portland.

Kidd and Richard Jefferson each missed three’s in the final 10 seconds to seal
the victory for Portland.

The Nets are off until Sunday when they visit the Sacramento Kings.
