(Sports Network) – Steve Francis buried a jump shot with 20.7 seconds
remaining to lift the Houston Rockets to a 93-91 win over the Portland Trail
Blazers on Tuesday at the Toyota Center.
Francis finished with 15 points and five assists, while Cuttino Mobley scored
a team-high 24 points as the Rockets won their seventh straight at home. Yao
Ming chipped in 16 points and eight boards for Houston, which has won four in
a row overall.
With two minutes to play in the game, Zach Randolph sank a turn-around shot in
the paint to give Portland a 91-87 lead. Yao then scored four straight to tie
the game with a minute remaining.
Rasheed Wallace then missed a 15-foot jumper and Houston grabbed a 93-91 edge
on a Francis jumper with 20.7 seconds left to play. Portland took over and
Randolph missed a layup over Yao, giving the ball back to Houston.
Randolph then hacked Yao with 9.2 seconds left and the big center missed both
shots. Stoudamire pulled down the rebound and his desperation three caromed
off the backboard.
Houston, which ended a four-game skid to the Blazers with the win, will return
to the court on Thursday against San Antonio.
