(Sports Network) – The Phoenix Suns lost their sixth in a row Sunday, as
they fell to the Sacramento Kings, 107-102, at ARCO Arena.
Shawn Marion led Phoenix with 32 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Stephon
Marbury added 22 points and eight assists for the Suns, who have lost eight
straight games. Phoenix is a dismal 2-9 on the road this season, and let this
one slip from its grasp.
The Suns held a 60-52 lead at halftime and extended that cushion to a game-
high 15 points when Jahadi White converted 1-of-2 free throws to make it 92-77
with less than 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
But the Kings responded with a 10-0 run that bled into the fourth, pulling
within 92-87 on Doug Christie’s free throws around the 9:30 mark. Phoenix
extended its lead to 96-90 less than two minutes later, but Sacramento ended
the game with a 17-6 spurt.
Bobby Jackson’s three-point play pulled the Kings within 96-93 with seven
minutes remaining, and Anthony Peeler’s three tied it at 96 with 6:35 left.
The game was still tied at 98-98 minutes later when Peja Stojakovic scored
four straight to give Sacramento the lead for good at 102-98. A pair of
Marbury free throws got Phoenix within two points, but Peeler followed with a
huge tip-in, and Brad Miller drained two from the line with 18 seconds
remaining to make it 106-100.
Marion then missed a pair of desperation threes in the waning moments, as the
Kings held on for the win.
The Suns are off until Tuesday when they host the Seattle SuperSonics.
