(Sports Network) – Kevin Garnett led all players with 22 points and 17
rebounds, as the Minnesota Timberwolves narrowly escaped the Target Center on
Friday with an 80-79 victory over Detroit.

Latrell Sprewell added 17 points and stepped up his defense down the stretch,
but it was a call by referees in the final seconds that ultimately led to
Minnesota’s third-straight win.

Chauncey Billups nearly gave Detroit an 81-80 lead with a tough jumper over
Garnett and Sam Cassell in the paint, but he was whistled for an offensive
foul after making the bucket.

Pistons coach Larry Brown was irate, but the call stood and Minnesota was able
to run out the final seconds for the win.

The Timberwolves, who have won eight of their last nine games and 10 straight
at home, return to action on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns.
