Los Angeles Lakers Team Report – January 25

=== Los Angeles Lakers Team Report – January 25 ===

(Sports Network) – Gary Payton scored 22 points and hit a key three-pointer
in the final seconds as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Utah Jazz, 93-86, at
the Delta Center.

Slava Medvedenko matched a career-high with 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds
to lead the Lakers, who snapped a nine-game road losing streak.

Kobe Bryant, activated prior to the game after missing six contests with a
sprained right shoulder, finished with 21 points and six assists in the win.

After Utah got to within three with just over a minute to play, Payton missed
a fadeaway jumper, but Medvedenko grabbed the rebound to give the Lakers a new
shot clock. After burning most of the shot clock, Payton put the game away by
nailing a long three-pointer to put the Lakers up by six with 13 seconds left.

Payton scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half.

Kareem Rush finished with 10 points off the bench for the Lakers, who shot 47
percent (35-of-75) from the floor. Los Angeles went 7-of-13 from three-point
range and 16-of-25 from the free throw line.

Karl Malone did not make the trip because of a knee injury. He would have been
playing his first game in Utah since signing with the Lakers as a free agent
before the start of the season. Shaquille O’Neal is also out until at least
next week because of a calf injury.

The Lakers return to action on Wednesday against the Seattle SuperSonics.
