(Sports Network) – The Utah Jazz were defeated by the injury-riddled Los
Angeles Lakers, 93-86, on Saturday at the Delta Center.
DeShawn Stevenson led five Utah scorers in double figures with 17 points.
Carlos Arroyo netted 16 points and Raja Bell had 12 for the Jazz, who dropped
their fourth in a row and their third straight at home.
Greg Ostertag and Aleksander Pavlovic each chipped in with 10 in the loss.
After a pair of free throws by Arroyo with 1:01 to play pulled the Jazz to
within three, Gary Payton missed a fadeaway jumper at the other end, but Slava
Medvedenko grabbed the rebound to give the Lakers a new shot clock.
After burning most of the shot clock, Payton put the game away by nailing a
long three-pointer to put the Lakers up by six with 13 seconds left.
Karl Malone did not make the trip because of a knee injury. He would have been
playing his first game in Utah since signing with the Lakers as a free agent
before the start of the season.
Utah returns to the court on Monday when they welcome the Los Angeles Clippers
to Salt Lake City.
