(Sports Network) – Kevin Garnett scored 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds
to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 97-95 victory over the Denver Nuggets
at the Pepsi Center.

Sam Cassell contributed 22 points and 11 assists for the Timberwolves, who
have won five in a row. Latrell Sprewell added 13 in the win, including the
go-ahead basket late in the fourth quarter.

Trailing by four with just over two minutes two minutes to play, the
Timberwolves began to make their move. Two free throws by Gary Trent and a
hook shot by Garnett off an offensive rebound tied the contest with 47 seconds
on the clock. Earl Boykins then missed from three-point range with 34.8
seconds remaining.

Sprewell tipped in a miss by Garnett with 16 seconds on the clock to give the
Timberwolves a 96-94 lead. Carmelo Anthony then made just 1-of-2 from the line
with 8.3 seconds to play, but Fred Hoiberg also made 1-of-2 with 6.6 seconds
left to restore the Wolves’ two-point advantage.

Minnesota, which has never been this high in the conference standings this
late in the season, has won five of its last seven and 11 of its last 14 on
the road and are 16-7 away from home this season.

The T-Wolves return to the court on Wednesday against the Golden State
Warriors.
