(Sports Network) – The Boston Celtics lost to the Indiana Pacers, 99-98,
on Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Paul Pierce netted 24 points for the Celtics, who lost their fourth straight
game. Boston is now 0-3 under interim head coach John Carroll.
The Celtics trailed by as many as 13, but got back into the game with a late
run. Mark Blount capped off a 6-0 burst for Boston with a one-handed shot to
cut the deficit to 96-95 with 1:08 to play.
But on the ensuing possession, Anthony Johnson drained a three-pointer with 44
seconds left to increase the edge back to four.
With 27.1 seconds remaining, Pierce knocked down a triple to get the Celtics
to within 99-98.
Indiana was called for a 24-second violation on the following possession and
Boston called a timeout with the inbound pass coming in the Pacer zone.
However, the Celtics never got off a shot as the pass was thrown behind
Pierce, who was only able to tip the ball into the hands of Indiana.
The Celtics shot 52 percent from the field and caused 19 turnovers.
This was the third meeting of the season between the two teams. Boston
defeated the Pacers, 78-76, on November 11, 2003 at Conseco Fieldhouse, while
Indiana knocked off the Celtics, 103-90, on January 2, 2004 at the
