(Sports Network) – Kenyon Martin scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to
lead the red-hot New Jersey Nets to an easy 97-84 win over the New Orleans
Hornets at Continental Airlines Arena.
Richard Jefferson added 21 points and Kerry Kittles scored 14 for the Nets,
who extended their franchise-best winning streak to 13 games and improved to
12-0 under interim head coach Lawrence Frank.
Frank’s 12-0 start is tied for the best start ever by any new manager/coach in
professional sports history. The Boston Red Sox won their first 12 games under
interim manager Joe Morgan in 1988 and James Price also started 12-0 with the
New York Gothams in 1884.
Jason Kidd contributed 11 points, nine rebounds and nine assists for New
Jersey, which has also won seven straight home games and has not lost overall
since January 24 at Miami.
The Nets’ 13 straight wins marks the longest winning streak in NBA history for
a team that lost five straight games prior to its winning streak. New Jersey
equaled Detroit and San Antonio for the longest winning streak this season.
New Jersey’s 11 blocked shots were a season-high.
The Nets are off until Tuesday when they host the Toronto Raptors.
