=== New Orleans Hornets Team Report – February 22 ===

(Sports Network) – The New Orleans Hornets were defeated by the New Jersey
Nets, 97-84, on Saturday at Continental Airlines Arena.

Jamal Mashburn poured in a game-high 28 points and hauled in 13 boards for the
Hornets, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Baron Davis
contributed 17 points in the setback.

The Hornets jumped out to a 10-3 lead less than four minutes into the game,
but New Jersey rallied and used a 12-5 run to tie the game at 15-15. The rest
of the quarter stayed close and the Nets led 25-24 after one period.

Kenyon Martin gave New Jersey a 35-28 lead on his free throw with just over
seven minutes left in the second quarter and the margin grew to nine on a pair
of free throws by Richard Jefferson later in the period. The Nets went into
the intermission with a 51-44 edge.

In the third, the Hornets climbed within one at 55-54 on Mashburn’s bucket
near the nine minute mark. New Orleans tied the score at 59-59 moments later,
but New Jersey then used a 10-0 spurt to grab a 69-59 advantage. During the
run, Martin scored six points.

The Nets led 74-68 after three periods.

New Jersey scored the first six points of the fourth to claim an 80-68 lead
and Martin’s basket moments later extended the cushion to 16 points. The
Hornets tried to mount a late comeback, as Mashburn’s deep three with 3:19
left brought them within 88-80. New Orleans could not get any closer and
suffered the 13 point setback.

The Hornets are off until Monday when they host rookie phenom LeBron James and
the Cleveland Cavaliers.
