(Sports Network) – James Posey scored 24 points and Pau Gasol added 18
points and nine rebounds, as the Memphis Grizzlies held on for a 97-92 victory
over Baron Davis and the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday.
Jason Williams added 15 points for the Grizzlies, who survived 16 second-half
points from Davis to move their record at The Pyramid to 23-8 this season.
Memphis has won seven of its last eight at home, but begins a four-game road
trip Monday at San Antonio.
The Hornets were within three points at 88-85 late in the game, but Memphis
used a 5-0 spurt — capped by Gasol’s dunk at the 1:00 mark — to grab a 93-85
Steve Smith then got New Orleans to within three yet again on a three-pointer
with 26 seconds remaining. but Gasol and Bonzi Wells each hit a pair of free
throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Forward David West finished with no points on 0-for-6 shooting, but grabbed 10
rebounds including six on the offensive boards
Memphis has won three of five and six of its last nine on the road and is
12-16 away from home this season.
The Grizzlies have split their two matchups with the Spurs this season,
but have lost 23 of 25 and 24 of the last 27 meetings. They have also dropped
11 of their last 12 in San Antonio.
