(Sports Network) – The New Jersey Nets fell to 2-2 without All-Star point
guard Jason Kidd on Sunday with a 94-88 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at the
Staples Center.

Richard Jefferson paced the Nets with 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds
and seven assists. Kerry Kittles netted 19 points and Kenyon Martin collected
17 points, 20 boards and seven assists for New Jersey, which lost for just the
fourth time in its last 21 games.

The Nets are now 5-25 all time at Los Angeles since joining the NBA in 1976.
Overall, they fell to 15-44 against the Lakers over that stretch.

Kidd, who suffered a bone bruise in his left knee in a loss to the Lakers last
Sunday, hopes to return to the Nets lineup on Wednesday when the Atlantic
Division leaders host the Denver Nuggets..

Jefferson has scored in double digits in 22 straight games and has thrived in
Kidd’s absence, averaging 23.3 points, 6.7 boards and 4.3 assists a game in
his last three contests.

New Jersey heads up the Atlantic by 10 games over the New York Knicks and is
second in the conference, 8 1/2 games behind the Indiana Pacers.
