(Sports Network) – John Salmons scored a career-high 22 points to lead
Philadelphia over Cleveland, 86-71, on Friday at the Wachovia Center.

Kenny Thomas added 19 points and nine rebounds for the 76ers, who moved within
1 1/2 games of Boston for the eighth and final playoff spot in the multi-team
race in the Eastern Conference.

All-Star guard Allen Iverson missed his third straight game for Philly with a
sore right knee. In the last eight games the Sixers played without Iverson,
Chris Ford’s squad is 7-1. Iverson, the team’s leading scorer, has missed a
career-high 25 contests this season and the 76ers are 12-13 overall without
him.

Elsewhere on the injury front Greg Buckner suffered a sprained right ankle and
will undergo an MRI exam on Saturday.

Philadelphia will return to action on Sunday when they head north to face the
Celtics at the FleetCenter. The Sixers have lost four straight and eight of
their last nine on the road this season and are 20-16 away from home this
season.

The Sixers have dropped two of three to the Celtics this season, but have won
12 of 17 and 15 of the last 21 meetings. Philly has also won six of its last
eight in Beantown.

Philadelphia, though, is just 1-7 in Sunday games this season.
