(Sports Network) – Rafer Alston drained a tough three-pointer with a half-
second remaining in overtime, giving the Miami Heat a thrilling 119-118
victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday at AmericanAirlines Arena.
The Heat trailed by three points with just 4.1 seconds left when Lamar Odom
went to the foul line. He made his first attempt, and when the second missed,
the ball deflected off Dallas forward Antoine Walker and out of bounds.
Alston then drained a running three-pointer off the inbounds pass, making the
shot from the left wing with 7-foot-6 Dallas center Shawn Bradley in his face.
Mavs guard Steve Nash missed a tough shot on the inbounds pass at the other
Odom led the Heat with 26 points and 18 rebounds, while Dwyane Wade added 24
points and Eddie Jones and Alston scored 20 apiece. Miami has won a season-
high seven straight games, but remain one game back of Milwaukee for fifth
place in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
The Heat return to action on Sunday when they visit the Indiana Pacers at
COnseco Fieldhouse, Miami has lost three of five and five of its last eight on
the road and is 10-25 away from home this season.
Miami has lost twice already this season to the Pacers and has dropped the
last eight in the series. The Heat have also lost four straight, five of six
and seven of their last nine in Indiana.
