New Hawks ownership promotes Wilkins

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) – On the same day the Atlanta Hawks finally got
new ownership, an old familiar face was hired for the front office.

Team legend Dominique Wilkens was promoted Wednesday to Vice President of
Basketball by the franchise’s new ownership group, which finalized its
purchase of the Hawks and the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers earlier in the day.

The $250 million sale from AOL Time Warner to Atlanta Spirit LLC had
previously been approved by the board of governors of both the NBA and NHL.

Wilkens, who played 12 outstanding seasons with the Hawks, will now be
responsible for serving as a member of the executive committee and the Hawks’
Free Agent Acquisition Committee, among other duties.

He previously served as the team’s special assistant to the executive vice
president and player development assistant.

“Dominique Wilkins is the ultimate Hawks icon,” said Bernie Mullin, president
and CEO of Atlanta Spirit LLC. “He will be involved in many player personnel
facets of our business as it relates to basketball, and help us re-connect
with the fans who appreciated his contributions as a player.”

Wilkins is eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 26,668 points, and
his 24.8 career scoring average is 11th all-time.
