(Sports Network) – Sam Cassell had a season-high 36 points and also added
eight assists, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 90-82 win over the
Memphis Grizzlies at the Target Center.

Kevin Garnett contributed 14 points and 22 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who
moved into a tie atop the Western Conference standings with Sacramento. The
Kings won earlier Sunday and, coupled with the Lakers’ loss to San Antonio,
also surpassed Los Angeles for the coveted top spot.

Michael Olowokandi had a strong game as well with 12 points and 14 rebounds,
helping Minnesota win its fifth straight overall and at home. With Garnett and
Olowokandi working in the paint, the Timberwolves held a commanding 54-40
advantage on the glass, including 19 offensive boards.

The closely contested game saw Minnesota pull away down the stretch behind a
strong defensive effort. The Timberwolves went into the final quarter ahead by
just one, but slowly extended the margin as they held the Grizzlies to just 4-
of-14 shooting in the final period.

Jasmes Posey’s 12-footer in the lane pulled Memphis within 73-72 with 8:38
left in the game. But the Grizzlies scored just two points in the next four
minutes, allowing Minnesota to build an 80-74 advantage with just over four
minutes remaining.

Memphis never could muster a spurt to get back into the game.

Minnesota has won five straight and six of its last seven at home and is 30-10
in its arena this season.

The T-Wolves will return to action on Thursday when they head to Sacramento
for a huge contest with the Kings ar ARCO Arena.
