Miami, Fl (Sports Network) – Eddie Jones scored 25 points and rookie Dwyane
Wade added 21, as Miami beat New Orleans 87-83 in Game 5 of their first round
series. Lamar Odom chipped in with 16 points for the Heat, who took a 3-2 lead
in the series after dropping Games 3 and 4 in New Orleans. No team has won on
the road in this series. Miami has won 15 consecutive games at
AmericanAirlines Arena, including the final 12 regular season games they
played there. New Orleans was led by Baron Davis’ 33 points and seven assists,
both game- highs. P.J. Brown added 12 points and 13 rebounds and Jamaal
Magloire scored 10 with 10 boards for the Hornets, who led by as many as 11
points in the game.

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) – Kevin Garnett poured in 28 points, handed
out eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds, as Minnesota advanced to the
second round of the playoffs with a 102-91 victory over Denver in Game 5 of
their Western Conference quarterfinal series at the Target Center. Sam
Cassell scored 26 and Latrell Sprewell contributed 19 points for the top-
seeded Timberwolves, who won the best-of-seven set 4-1 for their first playoff
win in the franchise’s history. Marcus Camby had 21 points and 15 rebounds
and Andre Miller also netted 21 points for the eighth-seeded Nuggets, who
played the game without rookie phenom Carmelo Anthony. The forward sat out
with a sprained left knee.
