Lakers’ Malone out for Game 5
Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) – Karl Malone, who joined the Los Angeles
Lakers for the specific reason to win his first NBA title, will not be in the
lineup tonight as the Lakers battle the Detroit Pistons in Game 5 of the NBA
Malone suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee in Game 2 of this series and
has not been 100 percent since. He saw limited action in a Game 4 loss and is
not in uniform as the Lakers face elimination in Game 5.
Malone is averaging just 5.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in the Finals,
down from his 13.2 and 8.7 averages in the regular season.
Los Angeles trails the Pistons 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. If the Lakers
win, Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday night at the Staples Center.
Slava Medvedenko will start at power forward in place of Malone.
