Milicic undergoes surgery; might miss Olympics
Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) – Detroit Pistons rookie Darko Milicic
underwent surgery to repair a broken hand that he suffered during Game 5 of
the NBA Finals.
Milicic, who appeared in the final minutes during Tuesday’s blowout, broke his
hand and is expected to miss eight weeks. Detroit won the game 100-87 and
defeated the LA Lakers in five games to win their third NBA title.
The injury hampers Milicic’s chances of playing for his native country,
Serbia, in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Milicic had decided not to play for
Detroit’s summer-league team because he wanted to focus on playing in Athens.
Milicic, 19, was seldom used this season and scored only 1.4 points per game.
The second pick in last year’s NBA Draft also missed the Pistons’ Thursday
parade to celebrate their championship.
