Nets make qualifying offer to Martin
East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) – The New Jersey Nets have made a
qualifying offer to restricted free agent forward Kenyon Martin.
Martin, who averaged 16.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game last season, will
be eligible to negotiate with other teams during the first two weeks of July.
The Nets will then have 15 days to match any offer or allow Martin to leave.
The 6-foot-9, 234-pound Martin has said he would like to stay in New Jersey.
A first time All-Star this past season, Martin has averaged 15.1 points and
7.6 rebounds during his four seasons in the league. His numbers have increased
during the postseason to 18.1 points and 8.3 boards per outing in 51 games.
