Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – The Toronto Raptors on Wednesday hired former
Atlanta Hawks general manager Pete Babcock to be their new director of player
Babcock, the brother of new Raptors’ GM Rob Babcock, had spent the last 13
years as the Hawks’ general manager before being fired last season.
Atlanta made the post season eight of his first nine full seasons, but
couldn’t got past the second round of the playoffs under Pete Babcock. The
Hawks reached 50 wins three times and won the Central Division championship in
1994. but Pete Babcock was criticized for falling to improve the club through
the draft in recent years.
Toronto has overhauled its front office over the past several weeks, including
the hiring of Rob Babcock, Minnesota’s former vice president of player
personnel on June 7. Wayne Embry and Alex English, a pair of Hall of Famers,
both joined the front office.
The Raptors’ hirings highlighted with the introduction of former player Sam
Mitchell as their new head coach on Tuesday.
